Past dogs, happy endings

Every dog arrives as a puppy with something to work through. Here's what that looks like in our foster program.

A note on these stories: To protect the privacy of our adopters and dogs, these are composite stories based on the kinds of dogs and outcomes we see in our program. Names and details have been changed, and no story describes a single dog. Photos are illustrative and may not show the dog described.

Biscuit

Surrendered at 4 months

The challengeBiscuit chewed everything in reach and panicked whenever he was left alone, even for a few minutes.

In fosterHis foster family built up alone-time slowly, gave him structured chew toys, and crate-trained him so the crate became his calm place.

TodayHe goes home knowing his basic commands, sleeps through the night in his crate, and stays relaxed when his family leaves for work.

Pepper

Surrendered at 4 months

The challengePepper had never been house trained and guarded her food bowl, growling when anyone came near.

In fosterA steady potty schedule and crate routine fixed the accidents, while gentle food-bowl exercises taught her that people approaching means good things.

TodayShe is fully potty trained, relaxed at mealtimes, and ready to thrive in a family home.

Juniper

Surrendered at 5 months

The challengeJuniper was terrified of strangers and hid or barked whenever someone new came to the door.

In fosterHer foster family introduced visitors gradually, using treats and patience, until new people meant good things.

TodayShe greets guests with a wagging tail and is now confident enough for a home with kids and regular visitors.

Moose

Surrendered at 3 months

The challengeMoose was strong and excitable, dragging anyone on the other end of his leash and jumping on everyone he met.

In fosterMonths of leash manners, "sit to greet" practice and daily exercise turned all that energy into focus.

TodayHe walks politely on a loose leash and waits calmly to say hello.
